Online Videos

These things are so distracting, there's so much out there thats not only fun but informative. So many applications for use in library settings I'm sure! I stumbled accross this in my stroll through YouTube, and although it's dated I liked the message. And you've gotta love a bookpocket and a date due stamp!

Really Short attention Span

This RSS (I've renamed it RSaS - see post title!) thing could get totally out of control. Once I'd subscribed to the suggested feeds, the SMH regional news feeds made me think of my hometown so I subscribed to the local news from the Border Morning Mail. I could've kept going but then I thought "I'm never gonna read all this stuff". I like the potential but recognising your time limitations is essential or you'll be just as overwhelmed by all the stuff coming into your inbox, yikes - just like email at work! I can see great potential for library catalogues notifying members of new books in particular categories or by particular authors or using library websites to notify of upcoming events. Excellent opportunities for marketing to our already captive audience. I think this Learning 2.0 thing is great, I'm just afraid I'm learning so much that it'll be ages before I catch on to all the potential of each of the applications, and by the time I do that there'll be more new applications that passed me by...

Grasshopper

I was impressed with my own photo of a grasshopper on a lemon tree and thught it would look good on the title of my blog. But then I went looking for other photos of grasshoppers on Flikr and was just amazed. I hadn't even imagined that so many bright coloured grasshoppers even existed and couldn't resist this image.

This one's excellent as well: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thirnbeck/330593832/

Talking to myself!

Wow! I've just completed the Week 2 "Adventure" and I can't believe there are so many blogs out there on specialist subjects and just about anything else. It reminds me that I read an article a while back that said that something like 5 times as much stuff is uploaded than downloaded on the Internet now. My interpretation of that is that only one fifth of the stuff on the Internet is actually read. So that means blogs are basically a whole lot of people talking to themselves and mistakenly thinking someone else is actually listening! The lesson for us is that our users have to be able to find the blog and find interesting stuff in it to keep them engaged and coming back for more. What do youse all reckon? If I don't get any responses I know I'm just taling to myself & no-one is listening!

Initial burblings

OK - here I am, something like 7 weeks behind everyone else. My challenge to myself is to catch up and overtake! ("We'll see about that" I hear you comment right back!) So far it's only taken me all afternoon to get this far, admittedly with any number of interruptions, and I'm bound to pick up speed as I go - nothing like some positive thinking to make things happen, eh? So I'd better not spend too much time babbling on or I won't ever get to the next lesson...
